How can we eliminate waste of Federal resources used to retrofit ICT? People with disabilities are left behind when the Federal government does not adopt accessible ICT technology or implement the Section 508 Standards. If government doesn’t adopt and implement accessibility as part of its overall IT strategic planning, including: IT Modernization planning; Consolidation efforts; Shared services planning; adoption of cloud computing; and Others, there is a waste of Federal resources and disregard for the skills and abilities of people with disabilities. The future technologies designed and purchased by the Federal government will continue to be inaccessible and the cost of retrofitting will continue to consume Federal technologists time and efforts to eliminate accessibility barriers. How can we get beyond implementation of Section 508 and be proactive to make new technologies adopted by the Federal government work for people with disabilities?
